Banović, PhD (Belgrade, 1960)
Professor Božidar Banović attended elementary and secondary school (IX beogradska gimnazija) in Belgrade. He graduated from the Faculty of Law in Belgrade in 1984 with an average grade of 9.13/10.00 and completed an MA and a doctoral degree at the same Faculty.
Academic career and professional experience
He worked in the College of Internal Affairs (Viša škola unutrašnjih poslova) from June 1986, holding several ranks from instructor to professor. He was a member of the Council and Managing Board of the College. From 1996 to 2004, he held the position of assistant to the principal and later acting principal. He received two awards from the Minister of the Interior for his work at the College of Internal Affairs and his contribution to the development of education of police officers.
In 2004, the Committee for Academic Ranks (Komisija za sticanje naučnih zvanja) of the Ministry of Science and Environmental Protection appointed him research fellow at the Institute of Criminological and Sociological Research.
In July 2005, he became assistant professor for the group of criminal-legal courses at the Faculty of Security Studies, University of Belgrade. By the decision of the Expert Council for Social Sciences and the Humanities (Stručno veće za društveno-humanističke nauke) of the University of Kragujevac, he was elected associate professor for the subfield of criminal law. He has taught undergraduate and doctoral degree courses Criminal Procedural Law, Juvenile Criminal Law and International Criminal Law at the Faculty of Law in Kragujevac, where he has also acted as director of doctoral degree studies.
Through a decision of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, he was appointed Inspector General of the Military Security Agency (VBA) and Military Intelligence Agency (VOA) of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia in February 2011.
In November 2014, he became full professor at the Faculty of Security Studies, University of Belgrade, where has also been the Vice Dean for Undergraduate Studies since September 2015.
He teaches the undergraduate courses Criminal Procedural Law and Criminalistics and the courses Legal Foundations of Forensic Science, Criminalistic and Forensic Crime Scene Investigation and Methods in Criminalistics as part of the Postgraduate Certificate Studies in Forensic Science, a joint programme of the Faculty of Security Studies and the Faculty of Physical Chemistry in Belgrade.
He has participated in a number of academic and research projects both as a manager and as a collaborator. He is a member of several academic and expert associations within the field of criminal law.
Monographs and coursebooks
He is the author of a large number of coursebooks, monographs and papers in academic journals. He has been the supervisor and committee member for a significant number of doctoral degree, master's degree and postgraduate certificate students.
